The South Lake Union Cell Analysis Facility is intended to support the research within and around the University of Washington’s South Lake Union Biomedical Research Complex.  We are currently functioning with two Beckman Coulter FC500s, and a three laser Beckman Coulter Altra cell sorter.

The facility is open to all; however unassisted use of the Beckman Coulter FC500s requires several training sessions and proven proficiency.  Cell sorting is accomplished only by the facility staff.

The instruments can be reserved by trained users through the on-line calendars (links to the left).  Time reserved will be billed unless the reservation is cancelled at least 24 hours ahead of time.  Time extending past the reserved time will be billed in half hour increments.   No shows will be billed for the entire reserved time.  All activities will be charged a one hour minimum.  A valid budget number or PO is required when time is reserved.

Training is available by request only.  Please phone the facility.

The current prices for UW grants are:

 ·        $53/hour Unassisted

·        $104/hour Assisted(both service)

·        Rates for non-UW available upon request

Beckman Coulter FC500 MCL 5 color two laser analysis instrument

Analyze five colors (FITC, PE, ECD, PC5 or APC and PC7) using either one or two laser.

CXP software also has an analysis platform that can function concurrently with acquisition. Coupled with the  Multi-Carousel Loader, (holds 29 samples per run), this allows the user to analyze the data as it is acquired.

Current filter arrangement:
525LP(Fitc),575LP(PE),615LP(PETxRed), 675LP(APC,Cy5), and 755LP(APC/Cy7 or PE/Cy7), i.e. green, orange, red, redder, reddest. See above for short list of flourochromes possible.

Equipped with a collinear second laser (633nm) that maintains a stable alignment with a single beam path.

Beckman Coulter FC500 MPL 5 color two laser analysis instrument with MXP Software

Analyze five colors (FITC, PE, ECD, PC5 or APC and PC7) using either one or two lasers.

Coupled with the  Multi-Platform Loader, the FC500 MPL allows 12 x 75mm tubes and 24- or 96-well plates to be used on the same system..

The CXP analysis software allows the user to analyze the data as it is acquired by the MXP software.

Current filter arrangement:
525LP(Fitc),575LP(PE),615LP(PE-TxRed), 675LP(APC,Cy5), and 755LP(APC/Cy7 or PE/Cy7), i.e. green, orange, red, redder, reddest. See above for short list of fluorochromes possible.

Equipped with a collinear second laser (635nm) that maintains a stable alignment with a single beam path.

A two laser Beckman Coulter Altra cell sorter

The sorter is equipped with an EnterpriseII water cooled dual beam laser, providing the main 488nm wavelength as well as UV beam at 350nm.

We have recently added a 635nm re laser

The Altra can sort two populations using up to six colors. Cell can collected into a variety of vessels including culture plates, 96 well to 6 well.
